97 s-10 4.3 electronic question

I reacently had sold a 1ton ford and recieved a 97 s-10 with a built to the hilt 350 as part of the trade, the 5.7 is carbed with a 700r4 all the factory guages work but the oil press. Well im trying to clean up the engin bay and was curious if the guages would still work if i removed what i believe to be the computer," box ontop of the rad over flow with about 40 wires that run to it.'' any help would be greatly appreciated.

I"m not too sure what you're referring to, do you have any pictures? Is there power going/coming to/from any of the wires?

I can tell you right now that is NOT a 97 computer as the 97 computers were black.

I'd like to see picks of full motor myself

That looks like the older style computers to me. So its possible the previous owner is using it for all of the gauges, like speedo and what not.

Correct, from 96 on the computer has the speedo, and a few other gauges wired into it, however, if you find parts from a 95 or older s10, you can get separate modules. Like my truck has a speed sensor buffer that is separate from the computer. So you can get rid of that and use stand alone modules.

Re: 97 s-10 4.3 electronic question

Wiring diagrams will help you out, so if you need them, just ask. I can get them sent out on Monday.
