97 350 swap ?'s
Hey guys im a noob to s10's but not working on stuff i know a lil of wat im doin. I got a 97 s-10 that had a swap started in it today. The engine block is in there although it is missin some parts to be complete. I was wondering if a radiator from any 350 will work I know custom mounts are in order but will any 350 rad be ok??? Also whenver puttin an auto trans into a originally manual truck, what modifications need to be done??? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Re: 97 350 swap ?'s
Ive used 4.3 radiators with great success and they bolt directly in. It depends on the engine but ive used it on carbed 350s and LT motors and they both ran cool, altho the LT ran very cold. Nothing has to be done with the auto trans swap really, youll need a trans cooler but you can get a rad with it built-in. You need to cover up the hole in the floor from the stick, pull out the 3rd pedal, and put a shifter in but thats it. Headers arnt sold by year, you just need to buy s10 v8 headers, or run like a camaro manifold if you want to do it cheap. You never said what motor you had tho..

Re: 97 350 swap ?'s
I looked up my suffix code for my engine and it says it is a 1980 engine and it has only 155 HORSEPOWER, the 4 cylinder that came stock in my 97' probably had like 140-150???? Im rethinking even swapping now
. Wat makes the engines so mild for that year or those years??? |

Re: 97 350 swap ?'s
For a stock 350 the 4.3 radiator will work. For the auto you can simply get a floor shifter, unless you want to swap in a column shifter.
I wouldn't be to discouraged, you can easily upgrade the 350. You will have mountains of torque, the truck will feel like a different animal from the 4 cylinder simply by dropping the 350 in. What rear end ratio do you have ? Last edited by Revolt : 10-11-2009 at 11:46 PM. |

Re: 97 350 swap ?'s
I have a 3.73 in the back and is that all chevy did to "de-tune" the engines just put milder parts on them??? The engine already has a edelbrock performer intake on it, i'm not sure if the heads are stock and i dont really no how I would check, the pistons look to be different than stock, and the distributor just looks huge lol. So I dont know if those parts would make a big difference but i have been looking at these heads on ebay.

heads make a world of difference. Look into worked 305 heads. Its a simple upgrade for alot of difference in power.

Re: 97 350 swap ?'s
Would I be better off getting the heads off ebay or getting some vortec heads??? I talked to a guy about my heads and he said mine were special heads already, because of the special casting marks on the front and back of the heads. But I looked up the numbers and it said the heads had small valves.
