454 radiator

Well I got my 97 extended cab body on my 71 k5 frame offroad rig and working at getting a radiator for it now. I have seen a bunch of v8 conversion rads on ebay and stores. The radiator will go in front of the core support and the electric fans will go in the support were the condenser once was. Anyone have exoerience with any radiator and how well it kept engines cool? We put a 96 mini blazer body on a friends 94 straight axled fullsize rig with a 350 and did the same thing, put the radiator in front of support and behind the grill. The stock s10 radiator in it so far is keeping it cool but am afraind wont be enough for a mild built big block. Any input? Thanks, here is a pic of the overall rig so far, about to start bending tube to built the rear section.

Re: 454 radiator

That's a cool truck!

I'm running an aluminum dual flat core 31X19 radiator that I bought on Ebay. It has managed to keep my 6.5 turbo diesel cool while towing trailers with it at near 100* heat, so I believe it would cool your BBC fine as well. I'm running the factory engine driven fan with a shroud I made though. I didn't trust electric fans with the diesel.

Re: 454 radiator

That one has the same dimensions and core design as mine. It requires a litle bit of core support mods though.

Not in this configuration. Here is the build thread:

Need to get radiator in so I can mount front winch and finish tube work and plumb in brakes and fuel yet.

Re: 454 radiator

Got it in. Had to build mounts off front of core support to grab bottom of radiator. It clears the from by about 1/4" and I had to clearance hood for the radiator cap. I also had to trim the very edge of the headlight mounts just like 1/8" or so. The lower hose goes under the support and I notched it open a little more and the upper hose goes through the support. This is a dual 1.25" row 31x19 Griffin radiator. Also mounted the fans in the core support where the condenser would normally go.
