350 swap and stock tranny
Hi,
I have a 350 tbi in my 92 s10 pickup, for now i'm reusing the stock 700r4. Has anyone else done this? How are your stock transmissions holding up? |

Re: 350 swap and stock tranny
It should up fairly well if the 700r4 was in good shape. Depends on alot of variables though.
With that said, I assume you're reusing a 700r4 that was behind a 4.3 ? |

Re: 350 swap and stock tranny
I'm using a 700r4 from an 89 4.3 behind my stock rebuilt 350. It's been 10 months now as a daily driver and so far no issues. The 4.3 trans was in good working order at the time of my swap. All I did was install a H/d shift kit from Dana (probuilt trans). I'll do a complete rebuild with the recommended parts when the time comes.

From what I heard, its should be fine as long as your not going crazy with the horse power. If your gonna go with a lot of HP, you might want to go with a 350T or 400T.

700R4's came behind V8's in other vehicles, so ther shouldnt be any reason it wouldnt work in yours.

Re: 350 swap and stock tranny
The earlier 4.3 700r4 lacked a few up grades as compared to the newer ones and the V8s. I believe this discussion has been mentioned in our trans/axle forum. The V8s front pump contains more vanes and a bit more clutches in one or more of the clutch packs. It might even have a better servo. As stated above, as long as you don't get to crazy you should be fine. Last edited by sewerrat : 10-15-2009 at 03:38 AM. |
