350 out 454 in!
Well, I have a88 s10 that I just pulled out my 355 and now I'm going to install a 454. I'm looking to have a mild 454, I will install cam, intake and maybe new pistons. I'm not worried about the power I just want something different. I have a 454 ready to go all stock that I bought for $475. I will also be rebuilding my TH400 trans. I will post pictures of the truck when I'm done. I plan on putting the motor in come spring time, I don't have a garage to work on it in.

Re: 350 out 454 in!
Nothing wrong with it. I'm trying to sell it now. They reason that I pulled it out was that I wanted to move it forward about an inch. After I had it out I found the 454 and thought why not, not many people have a 454 in their s10.

Re: 350 out 454 in!
Wow, love to see this done. But be careful with that 454, it looks kinda "old" like something from the late 70's and 80's that were smoged out and got the worst of everything with a crazy low CR. I love BB swaps!

Re: 350 out 454 in!
Lot's of 454's were actually from ambulances. I can't wait to see this build I always pondered on how much modification it'd take for a 2nd gen 454, but this is close enough!!

Re: 350 out 454 in!
The carb was set on backwards for the picture thanks to the guy that was taking the picture, I walked way to get the something to drink and he said he would put the carb on and take the picture. When I can came back I put it on right.
Nothing wrong with it I just wanted something different. The 454 is from a 76 sub, don't worry I will look nice and run good when I'm doing with it. I'm asking $1000 for the 355. |

Re: 350 out 454 in!
What are you doing for cooling? Everytime I swapped a big block Ford into a Ranger platform I had cooling issues, too much motor for that small of an engine bay, that's why small blocks are the way most people go, just more room for everything. I'll be following this thread because I plan to utilize a 409/M22 combo I have sitting in my shed some day.
Edit: They were both trail rigs (the Ranger Based Vehicles) where you generally have overheating issues on hot days. But same conditions would arise in slow moving traffic on hot days as well. Still just wondering what the plan is. Last edited by skfury440; 03-19-2009 at 10:53 PM. |

Re: 350 out 454 in!
Now fast forward to today OP has repeatedly here and on other threads promised pics of progress repeatedly and there are none. Do a search put in BBC + S10. READ there are a lot of people posting ...I'm puting a 496,427 or 454 in a S/10 however there are few ever completed. The reason being is also in your search. DO NOT RESPOND TO ANY OF THOSE THREADS AND BRING THEM BACK UP. They are filled with wisdom probably way beyond your grasp including the reasons why most people don't finish the swaps. Now I got a question: who are you to stereotype anyone? Last edited by The Stunningman; 03-26-2009 at 11:04 AM. |

Re: 350 out 454 in!
I will post some pics in the next few days. I have the frame cut and welded. I hope to sit the motor in this week. Over the next few weeks I would work on a set of headers and then hook up the gas lines and trans and everything else. I'm starting to get close.

Re: 350 out 454 in!
I pulled my SB out (trying to sell it), got a 454 'dummy' block fitted in the truck while I'm gathering parts & building up the 'real' 454. I'm also just looking for info & what you're saying is true.. all these threads kinda go dead. It'd be great to see pictures, get ideas for headers, etc, etc.. My build thread is over at S10planet & I have the same name there, too.

Re: 350 out 454 in!
for headers the only real option would be outside the frame rail. and in that case thats easy to fab up. is your dummy block one that has heads molded in it to?

Re: 350 out 454 in!
Doesn't have heads molded to it.. but they are bolted on. haha. I've been reading & piecing bits here & there & from what I gathered you can run Hedman pn#68610 headers. You can cross reference that pn over at summit.. hed-68610. Really, I'd prefer to run Sanderson headers since they have a much thicker flange & are way better in quality, IMO.
Here's 2 reasons I don't want to go outside the frame rails.. I'm going to be running ZR1 vette wheels. They're the ones that are 9.5" in the front & 11" out back. ..& #2.. I'm sticking w/ a manual trans. A super T-10 to be exact. |

Re: 350 out 454 in!
ya i wasnt thinkin shorties... but hell if they work thatd be kickass.
ya the reason i asked bout the block is because i've seen dumb people fab everything up before and never put the damn heads in there and then they get royaly screwed when they put the engine in... |

Re: 350 out 454 in!
If the rain holds out this weekend I will have the motor and trans in this weekend. I will take pictures after they are in. The only thing that I should have do to after sunday will be the headers.
I heard that that 68610's will work but looking at them I don't think they will. The guy named badtoad 454 in the link below has a set of homemade headers that are inside the frame rail. If you go to photo area you can see them. http://www.mys10.com/showthread.php?t=2539&page=11 |
