327 swapping?

So It's not certain or anything but I have mentioned a v8 swap in my truck and we have thrown around the idea a few times. Even if I don't do it now I would like to do it eventually. I have a few questions regarding the swap though. Is a 5.3 327 even worth the swap or just go with a 350? I want fuel injection so would I use all of my wiring but just switch out the computers? Would I keep my stock tranny or have to find one? Suggestions? My truck is a zr2 4wd so will the stock oil pan on a 327 fit or would I have to change it? Finally could the drivetrain(axles,t-case,driveshafts,etc) handle the extra power. Sorry for all of the questions but I'm curious as to how hard the swap would be! Thanks for the help. And like I said I'm not necessarily doing it so none of that get going stuff.

Re: 327 swapping?

theres more to it than just swapping computers, you need the wiring to go with it, its obviously going to be different than a 4.3 in terms of sensors and plugs... when you go to purchase the engine, make sure it comes complete with the ECM and the harness... and make sure the harness was not cut when it was removed, some jackasses will do that

is your truck a 4.3? the tranny you have will may or may not work, i dont know if the 4wd trucks had different trannys than the 2wd, probably not but you never know, ive seen dumber things before... the 4.3 came with 4l60e (i think) which is basically a modern version of the 700r4, i dont remember if the 5.3 is a vortec engine, or an LS engine, i believe the bellhousing pattern is different between the 2

X2 on what he said. From what IVE read, you have to get a different oil pan for 4x4s. Youll also need motor mounts and swap headers. Possibly e-fan depending on how you want to set it up.

And maverick he would have the 4l60e.

Re: 327 swapping?

Alrite well the place I would get it is a junkyard that my cousin owns so it would be not problem to get wiring. I've heard that it is a LS3 but I'm not sure on that. My brother's 2001 silverado has the 5.3 Vortec and I like the way it feels and the power it has, therefore the reason I'm looking at a 327 instead of a 350. I also know a guy with a carb 350 in a blazer and he already said he could help me do the swap. He used manifolds off of a caprice to do the 350 could you do something similar for a 327 because I'm not a big fan of headers.

Re: 327 swapping?

Headers > manifolds, whats wrong with headers? and also a 5.3 is NOT an ls3.

and carbed and fuel injected are way different. The EASIEST way to go about doing a fuel injected swap is talking to jared at CP. but his harness will run you 1000+
