Re: 1st Gen Bigblock Installation
I'm trying to find out how tall of a intake he used on his truck. I need to see how tall of one I can use if I do everything the same way he did.

Re: 1st Gen Bigblock Installation
Thank you. I'm thinking about keeping the stock intake but I do like the looks of an aftermartket intake and the extra power would be nice.

Re: 1st Gen Bigblock Installation
I'm going to do it like the OP and not cut a hole or put a need hood on. It will all be under the hood. You should do it!

Prostock32 - What kind of headers are those? If you made them how did you know how long to make them? Do you have any pictures of the drivers side header, I would like to know how you got around the steering.

Yeah but I can't pay $1400 for the headers. I think I'm going to make some custom headers for this project.

Re: 1st Gen Bigblock Installation
Hey tim new to this site. The first thing that I found had to be your truck man I must say that this thing brings back alot of memories.I built a 1991 s10 bbc back in 1992 cruised that thing and raced every weekend I did manage to keep the stock hood also by moving the radiator to the bed with twin 12" electric fans you would not believe the space that freed up in the bay. When you get ready to sell that thing be sure to keep me in mind I would make sure if got into the mags that I would let everyone know just who built the beast.Boy you got me wanting to build another one!!!!!!!

Re: 1st Gen Bigblock Installation
really nice BB s10, I used to have a black 84 standard cab just like that with the gutless 2.8L, man it takes me back. It was my parts runner for my 83 kingcab during the 350 conv. Too bad I totalled that little truck, I might have done something cool with it. Anyhow, I love how you kept it really stock looking, even that massive engine you dropped in looks factory installed. Great job man! Your s10 is one of the best looking 1st gen I've seen.

Re: 1st Gen Bigblock Installation
No, never run it on the strip. Too much time into prep and painting to tear it up. Yeah, the rear bumper is a Blazer. I first did that back in the 80s and have always liked the clean look. So when I built the truck this time I stuck with it. |

Re: 1st Gen Bigblock Installation
I love what you did and how you made it look so clean and at home under that little hood. I have a '89 s-15 that I want to customize. I plan on going a different route though by lifting mine and throwing a solid axle under the front since it's 2wd and I'm more of a 4wd guy. I was going to leave the 2.5 in it but it isn't going to work the way I want it so I figured if I'm pulling the motor then it's getting a V8. Which brings me here, I did a search for BB since I'd rather go that way and saw yours which by the way is a beautiful truck all around. I wanted to see if it was possible to fit a BB and keep the original hood which apparently is, I also want it a DD like yours. My question is do you think it will be fairly simple to go with a TBI motor from late 80's to early 90's fullsize, I don't mean easy as in the install but the wiring. It's obvious that you know what your doing. Mine doesn't have A/C or power steering which I'll put power steering in with the swap. Is that the original booster in yours? Since I want to go a little newer for the fuel injection, do you think the serpentine setup will take up too much room? Sorry so long but I wanted to get your opinion. Everyone is right, it definatley looks like a factory option with that BB in there. And for what it's worth I can tell that's a big block so, sorry you had to go through all the trouble of putting a rat under the hood just to get accused of having a mouse in there. It's just not christian second guessing someone like that.

Re: 1st Gen Bigblock Installation
But thanks for the compliments anyways. I had thought originally about doing a SS S-10 BB look with the TBI and sepentine belt system, but there isn't much room at the front of the truck for everything. As it is my engine at some places is about an inch away from the firewall. I guess you could manage to put the radiator further out but it would involve cutting up the top of the support, and then there woulld be no hood lock bracket for the hood latch. Look in the forums here http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f10/v8...97/index3.html I think thats it. This 94 GMC BB with serpentine belt set up, but he had to cut the support and move the radiator out to the front near the grille. All I have ever delt with is carb installs so on the wiring.....?? there are places out there that can make wiring harnesess for installs if you tell them exactly what you are doing. The brake booster is the original one, I had it rebuilt. Its kinda funny about no one believing that there is a BB in the truck. When I first started going to shows people would look, listen, then some look, and still ask if it was a BB so I installed a 454 emblem from an early Chevellle on the front lower section of the fender so they would see that and maybe believe it. Thanks again, and let me know if you have any Qs. Last edited by tlambert : 02-16-2010 at 12:10 AM. |

Re: 1st Gen Bigblock Installation
Thanks for the prop. The serpentine set up is clean looking and simple but makes alot of other problems .As far as i know im the only one that has done it as far as a bbc in a s10 .I just did it cause i was told i couldent do it that way . The nice thing is i can get replacement parts anywhere .I built it as a street truck with a drag style rear end ,just incase . The point is , anything can be done all depends on how you think . |
