1995 s10 4.3l TBI 4x4

First off, I know that my questions have been answered before. That being said, here goes my first post here...

I have a 95 s10 with the 4.3L TBI 4x4 automatic. This will be my first swap and will be done over time. I plan on finding the V8 to use and spend the fall/winter rebuilding it (first time, going to do the work on weekends). I would like it to go as easy as possible so I was thinking about using a 95 with TBI because from what I have been reading, it may be the easiest? Yes? No? What would be the preferred engine to go with? This will be my DD when completed, not planning on taking it down the strip or anything. Also, would most bolt up to the stock trans? My reasoning is that I read the 4.3L trucks had a rear end that is fine to use which would be awesome.

I should wrap this up...

95 is a bastard year. its a 1 only year. 95 is 95. this was the first year GM changed electronics to get prepared for the mandatory '97 OBD11 requirements.

any SBC can be adapted for TBI, its not difficult. I would read up on the 95 model year for you EFI truck. MAKE sure you check everything 3 times b4 the swap. 95 can be very hard to do.

So would it be easier/maybe even cheaper to get a different truck? Or should I try it and see what happens?

its up to you. the issues with 95 is no one suppoerts it ECU wise, SO this means no custom ECU programming.

I am not saying it can't be done, its just a 95 and it s harder. I am sure someone has done this b4.

98+ is easy due to the electronice. 93 and older is easier due to electronics. now this is comparing both of these to a 95.

Well correct me if im wrong but the trans is controlled by my current ECU so I would have to make the V8 talk to the computer? Or is it engine talking to trans?

your current ECU talks to the trans. it makes it shift and all.

2 quick questions?
does your current eng have a crankshaft sensor on the front timing chain cover. if it does, than this may pose more issue for your swap.

also what ECU do you have? is it under the hood or under the dash b/t glove box?

Actually I think I have been talked out of the swap. I attended a campfire and while talking with my buddy's dad, ge took me to his garage and showed me the swap he is in the process of doing and gave me the idea of building another 4.3 to throw in. Much easier. I have not completely threw the 350 idea away though, just moved it to the backburner.
